Retired Detective Shot Dead by Son in Long Island Home

A tragic incident unfolded in a Long Island home on Wednesday morning, resulting in the death of a 75-year-old retired detective at the hands of his own son. John “Jack” Miller, a former Suffolk County Police Department detective, was shot multiple times by his son, Christopher Miller, 43, during a heated argument inside their Dix Hills residence around 7:25 a.m., according to authorities.

The altercation reportedly escalated when Christopher Miller returned home after being released from a local hospital following a car crash earlier in the week.

John Miller had reported his son missing the day before the tragic incident took place, as he had not heard from him.

Lieutenant Detective Kevin Breyer of the Suffolk County Police Department stated that Christopher had recently moved in with his father following a divorce.

After the shooting, Christopher Miller fled to a nearby shed on Seaman Neck Road, prompting a concerned homeowner to contact law enforcement. Police quickly located him and brought him back to the scene, where they discovered John Miller deceased.

Christopher Miller was arrested and charged with murder. He was also treated for injuries sustained in the car crash before being taken into custody.

His arraignment is expected to take place at a later date.

When contacted for a statement, a member of the Miller family declined to comment on the tragic events that transpired.
