Viaplay’s “A Life’s Worth” Sold to Spain and Greece Ahead of Series Mania Premiere

Viaplay Content Distribution has successfully sold the highly anticipated drama series “A Life’s Worth” to Spain (EITB) and Greece (Vodafone) ahead of its premiere at Series Mania in the International Panorama. The six-episode series, directed by Ahmed Abdullahi, is inspired by the challenges faced by the first Swedish U.N. battalion sent to Bosnia in 1993.

Produced by Yellowbird in co-production with Viaplay and Arte France, “A Life’s Worth” has also been licensed to Arte for France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Austria, with Viaplay holding other world rights.

Co-writer Mona Masri shared insights into the inspiration behind the series, stating, “Swedish soldiers didn’t have to go there; they volunteered. Some needed a job, others hoped for an adventure. So many of them didn’t even know what that war was about. They got more than they asked for.”

The series is based on the book of the same name by U.N. soldier Magnus Ernström, who served as a consultant on the show. Masri emphasized the importance of capturing the true essence of the experiences of those who have been through war and expressing their feelings of helplessness.

Actor Johan Rheborg, who plays a controversial colonel in the series, reflected on the events portrayed, noting, “I had a few friends who actually went there. But people didn’t talk about our participation, and for politicians, it was dangerous to admit they sent Swedes to war.”

The cast also includes Erik Enge, Edvin Ryding, Maxwell Cunningham, Toni Prince, Sandra Stojiljković, and Johannes Bah Kuhnke, who bring the characters to life in this compelling narrative.

As the series delves into the complexities of war and the experiences of young soldiers in a foreign land, it also touches on themes of resilience, humor, and humanity in the face of adversity. Enge emphasized the importance of respecting real-life events and portraying them authentically.

“A Life’s Worth” not only explores the horrors of armed conflict but also the moments of normalcy, humor, and camaraderie that emerge in the midst of chaos. The characters navigate through trauma and brutality, seeking moments of levity to cope with the harsh realities they face.

With its upcoming premiere at Series Mania and international distribution deals in place, “A Life’s Worth” promises to be a thought-provoking and emotionally resonant series that sheds light on a forgotten chapter of history.
