The lost art of cleaning out your feed

On TikTok, for example, you can press and hold on a video to indicate you’re not interested in seeing more like it. On Instagram, you can hide posts from certain accounts or report them as spam. On YouTube, you can tell the algorithm you’re not interested in a particular channel. These actions all help the algorithm learn what you do and don’t want to see.

Another way to influence the algorithm is to engage with the content you do like. Commenting, liking, and sharing posts all signal to the algorithm that you want to see more like that. If there’s an account you really like that you aren’t seeing in your feed, go to their page and interact with their content directly.

The key here is to be active and intentional about what you engage with. Algorithms are designed to show you what they think you want to see, but they can only do that if they have enough data to work with. By curating your feed and engaging with the content you enjoy, you can help ensure that your social media experience is more enjoyable and fulfilling.

Find New Accounts

Finally, if you’re feeling bored or uninspired by your social media feeds, it might be time to shake things up and find some new accounts to follow. This can be a great way to inject some fresh energy and excitement into your online experience.

One way to find new accounts is to explore the “Discover” or “Explore” sections of your social media platforms. These sections are designed to show you content from accounts you don’t follow based on your interests and activity. Take some time to browse through these sections and see if anything catches your eye.

You can also ask your friends for recommendations. Chances are, they follow accounts that you might enjoy too. They can suggest accounts that align with your interests and introduce you to new content creators.

Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and follow accounts that are different from what you’re used to. You might discover new hobbies, interests, or perspectives that you never knew existed. Social media is a vast and diverse space, and there’s always something new to explore.

By actively curating your social media feeds, influencing the algorithm, and finding new accounts to follow, you can make your online experience more enjoyable and engaging. Remember, social media is what you make of it, so take the time to create a feed that brings you joy and inspiration. Happy scrolling!

. Are you tired of seeing content on social media platforms that you have no interest in? It can be frustrating when your feed is filled with videos or posts that don’t align with your preferences. Luckily, there are ways to customize your social media experience and see more of what you want.

For example, on YouTube, you can click the three dots next to a video title and click the “Not interested” button. This simple action can help tailor your recommendations to better suit your tastes. Similar options exist on other platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Threads. While the effectiveness of these buttons may vary, they are worth exploring to refine your feed.

If you find that these adjustments aren’t working as well as you’d like, it might be time to consider a more drastic approach. One option is to reset the algorithm on your favorite platforms. Guides are available online to help you reset the algorithms on YouTube, Instagram, and even TikTok. By starting fresh, you can have a clean slate and shape your feed based on your current preferences.

Some may view these steps as extreme, but it’s essential to be mindful of the content you consume. What you see online can influence your thoughts and behaviors, so taking control of your feed is crucial. By actively curating your timeline, you can ensure that you are exposed to content that resonates with you.

Ultimately, the goal is to create a positive and enriching online experience. Whether it’s muting certain creators or resetting algorithms, these actions can help you take charge of your social media journey. Remember, the content you engage with shapes your digital world, so it’s worth investing time in creating a feed that reflects your interests and values.
