The British Wildlife Photography Awards have once again showcased the incredible diversity of animal life across Great Britain. This year’s competition saw over 13,000 images submitted by both amateurs and professionals, with the top prize going to Simon Withyman for his striking portrait of a female fox in Bristol.

Withyman, who had been photographing the vixen for three years, captured a beautiful image of the fox in an urban setting, showcasing the beauty of wildlife in everyday scenes. The image titled “Urban Explorer” highlights the resilience and adaptability of urban wildlife.

Other notable winners include Drew Buckley’s dramatic shot of Scotland’s Monadhliath Mountains with a white hare in the foreground, and Ben Lucas’ GoPro capture of a group of ravenous pigeons eyeing a bag of chips. These images, along with many others, can be viewed in the BWPA 2025 winners gallery.

One of the standout images from the competition is James Roddie’s “Storm Light Over the Caledonian Forest,” which captures the beauty of Scots pines in Glen Strathfarrar, Scotland. The image perfectly showcases the unique landscape of the Scottish Highlands.

Another striking image is Nicholas More’s “Blue Shark,” which won in the Coast and Marine category. The underwater photograph of a blue shark off the coast of Penzance, Cornwall, captures the grace and power of these magnificent creatures.

From a seal swimming in an illuminated cave to a red deer bugling in the rain, the images in this year’s competition truly celebrate the beauty and diversity of wildlife in Great Britain. Each photograph tells a unique story and offers a glimpse into the fascinating world of British wildlife.
