Following Trump’s address on Thursday night, the decision by some networks to not broadcast his primetime speech on election security appeared prudent. Notably, CBS was the only network that did not broadcast Biden’s 2022 speech on elections and democracy but chose to air Trump’s speech in 2026.
During an interview on CBS’s Face The Nation, Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) was questioned by Margaret Brennan: “Has your committee been given evidence to back up those claims that suggest a direct ability to interfere?”

Warner took the opportunity to criticize CBS News management for broadcasting Trump’s speech, stating, “No, absolutely not. And matter of fact, here is the- there are so many absurdities and falsehoods in Trump’s Thursday night speech, and I’m glad that most media treated it not as serious news. And I know some folks at your network- the journalists, I have huge respect for. I was disappointed that your senior management made the decision to cover it as news.”
Warner distinguished between the dedicated journalists at CBS who pursue the truth and the management, including CBS News Editor-in-Chief, and MAGA supporter Bari Weiss.
Sen. Warner continued his efforts to debunk the claims made in Trump’s speech.
