Joe and Anthony Russo, the renowned directors behind projects like this month’s “The Electric State,” Netflix’s most expensive movie ever, have built a reputation as some of the most extravagant filmmakers in the industry. However, the scope of their company, AGBO, extends far beyond just high-budget productions. The Russos have collaborated with various streaming services, independent studios, and Marvel veterans to create a diverse range of action-packed films. While their upcoming projects, such as 2026’s “Avengers: Doomsday” and 2027’s “Avengers: Secret Wars,” are expected to come with hefty price tags, the Russos have proven that a large budget does not always equate to a large audience.

One of AGBO’s early productions was “21 Bridges” in 2019, with a reported budget of $33 million. Starring Chadwick Boseman as a determined NYPD detective, the film grossed $50 million worldwide, showcasing that success is not solely determined by the size of the budget. Following this, AGBO released “Extraction” in 2020, with a budget of $65 million. The movie, featuring Chris Hemsworth as an Australian mercenary on a rescue mission, garnered a staggering 135.7 million views on Netflix within the first 91 days of its release.

In 2020, AGBO produced “Mosul,” a war film based on the real-life battle of an Iraqi SWAT team against ISIS, with a modest budget of $20 million. While Netflix did not disclose viewership data, the film received positive reception in Europe and the Middle East. The Russos continued their streak with “Cherry” in 2021, a dark drama starring Tom Holland as a war veteran turned bank robber, with a reported budget of $42 million. The film premiered on Apple TV+ without specific viewership data being released.

Their collaboration with the Daniels resulted in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” in 2022, a multiversal action dramedy that won seven Oscars and grossed $143.4 million globally. Following this success, AGBO unveiled “The Gray Man” in 2022, starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, with a budget of $200 million. The film garnered 41.2 million views in its first week on Netflix, and 139.3 million within the first 91 days.

In 2023, AGBO ventured into television with “Citadel,” a spy thriller series on Prime Video with a reported budget of $250 million for its six-episode first season. The show, starring Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra, and Stanley Tucci, received acclaim and peaked with 273 million minutes viewed in the US during its finale week. Additionally, AGBO produced spin-off series “Citadel: Diana” and “Citadel: Honey Bunny,” each set in different locations.

Continuing their streak of successful collaborations, AGBO released “Extraction 2” in 2023, a sequel to the original film with a budget of $90 million. The movie, featuring Chris Hemsworth and Idris Elba, garnered 42.8 million views in its first week and 134.9 million within the first 91 days. Most recently, in 2025, AGBO launched “The Electric State” on Netflix with a reported budget of $275 million. Starring Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown in a sci-fi adventure, the film attracted 25.2 million views in its first week and 47.7 million in the first 10 days.

The Russo brothers, through AGBO, have showcased their versatility and ability to deliver compelling content across various platforms, proving that their success transcends the size of the budget at hand. With a diverse portfolio of projects and a commitment to engaging storytelling, Joe and Anthony Russo continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
