Coffee lovers beware! If you thought you were sipping on decaf coffee to avoid the jitters, you may want to think again. Recent reports from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration have revealed that certain batches of Our Family Traverse City Ground Coffee were mislabeled as decaffeinated when they actually contained caffeine. As a result, Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA has issued a voluntary recall of the product, which has left many coffee drinkers feeling more wired than they bargained for.

The affected product, Our Family’s Traverse City Cherry-Flavored Decaf Light Roast Ground Coffee, comes in 12-ounce bags with best-buy dates of Aug. 8, 2025. A total of 692 cases of the product were distributed to 15 states, including Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. If you purchased this coffee in any of these states and are experiencing unexpected jitters, it might be time to check the package.

In response to the mislabeling, Our Family has issued a statement emphasizing their commitment to health and safety, expressing regret for any inconvenience caused by the oversight. The FDA has classified this recall as a Class II recall, indicating that the consumption of the product may result in temporary or reversible adverse health effects.

Caffeine, a natural stimulant found in coffee beans, tea leaves, and other sources, can have various effects on the body. Excessive caffeine consumption can lead to jitteriness, nervousness, anxiety, and disrupted sleep patterns. Dehydration, gastrointestinal issues, increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, and even addiction are potential risks associated with consuming too much caffeine.

To avoid the unwanted effects of caffeine, it’s essential to be mindful of your intake and ensure that products labeled as decaffeinated actually contain no caffeine. Checking the packaging of your coffee is crucial, especially in light of recent recalls. So, next time you reach for a cup of decaf, make sure it’s truly caffeine-free to prevent any unwanted surprises. Stay informed and stay caffeinated responsibly!
