The General Director of the Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigative Agency (OIJ) revealed that a specialized hazardous atmosphere team and forensic engineering experts detected the contamination. It was theorized that the contamination may have originated from a nearby machine room, causing the tragic incident.
The OIJ has alerted the local Fire Department and Ministry of Health to address the confirmed contamination in the room. They are collaborating with the FBI in the U.S. to await final results from forensic toxicology. Initial findings indicate that levels of carbon monoxide in the room were as high as 600 parts per million, far exceeding the safe level of zero.
