Laura Linney Joins Cast of MGM+ Comedy Series “American Classic”
Laura Linney is set to star in the upcoming MGM+ comedy series “American Classic,” alongside Kevin Kline and Joe Tenney. The series is scheduled to begin production in New Jersey this summer.
The show follows Broadway star Richard Bean (Kline), who experiences a public meltdown and returns to his hometown to the family-run theater where he first discovered his talent. Upon his return, he finds that his father, the former artistic director, has lost his touch, and the theater is now being run by his brother Jon (Tenney) and his wife Kristen Forrest Bean, played by Linney. The once-respected theater has transformed into a low-rent dinner theater serving roast beef and murder mysteries. Determined to save the town and the theater, Richard sets out to stage a great American classic on the dinner theater stage, directed by and starring himself.
Linney’s character, Kristen Forrest Bean, grew up acting in the family theater and fell in love with Richard Bean at a young age. Despite initially pursuing a career in New York with Richard, she eventually returns home to Millersburg, marries Richard’s brother Jon, and becomes the Mayor of the town. Kristen uses her passion and practicality to help keep the family theater alive.
Linney is a highly acclaimed actress known for her work in TV and film. She recently starred in the hit Netflix series “Ozark,” earning multiple Emmy nominations and Golden Globe wins for her performances. With a career spanning both television and film, Linney has received numerous awards and nominations for her exceptional talent.
“American Classic” is created by Michael Hoffman and Bon Martin, with Hoffman directing the pilot episode. The series is executive produced by Kline, Leslie Urdang, Anthony Bregman, and Miriam Mintz, among others. The studio behind the show is Fifth Season, with production from Mar-Key Pictures, Likely Story, and Anonymous Content.
