Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, the 55-year-old rapper and music mogul, appeared in court on Monday and pleaded not guilty once again to his charges. Immediately after his court appearance, he was returned to the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center, where he has been held since September. Despite his legal team’s efforts to secure his release until the trial on May 5, Combs remains at the troubled Brooklyn jail.

Life behind bars for Combs has been a far cry from the luxurious lifestyle he once enjoyed. Currently housed in 4 North, a dormitory-style unit on the fourth floor of the jail, Combs shares the space with around 20 men, including other high-profile inmates. One of his neighbors in the facility is Sam Bankman-Fried, a disgraced crypto mogul, while CEO assassin suspect Luigi Mangione, who has ties to Combs’ lawyer, is also awaiting trial in a different part of the facility.

In contrast to more restrictive units where inmates are confined to their cells for 23 hours a day, 4 North offers more freedom of movement. Inmates have access to amenities like televisions, a microwave, and a workout area equipped with mats and exercise balls.

While Combs once enjoyed gourmet meals prepared by private chefs, his current diet consists of simpler fare like lasagna or “pasta fazool” for vegetarians every second Friday of the month. Inmates in standard-issue brown uniforms eat in a communal dining area and have access to a commissary stocked with snacks, toiletries, radios, and watches. Inmates can spend up to $180 every two weeks from outside contributions, with items like $1 mackerel packets serving as prison currency.

Within the confines of 4 North, Combs meets regularly with his legal team and has been provided with a laptop for reviewing evidence related to his case. Although he does not have internet access, he can use the laptop daily from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for legal purposes. Phone calls are restricted to 15 minutes each, but prosecutors have alleged that Combs engaged in unauthorized communications with other inmates and potential witnesses.

Despite the challenges of his current situation, Combs remains focused on his legal defense and preparing for his upcoming trial. Another hearing for the jailed rapper is scheduled for Friday, April 18, with jury selection set to begin on April 28. As he navigates the complex legal proceedings, Combs continues to maintain his innocence and plead not guilty to the charges against him.
