Kirk Cousins’ tenure with the Atlanta Falcons in the 2024 NFL season was a rollercoaster ride that ultimately ended with him being benched in favor of Michael Penix Jr. Cousins, who had signed a lucrative contract with the Falcons after leaving the Minnesota Vikings, started off the season strong with a 6-3 record in his first nine games. However, a string of losses derailed the Falcons’ playoff hopes, leading to Cousins being replaced by the promising rookie.

In his 14 games as the Falcons’ starting quarterback, Cousins threw for 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns, and a career-high 16 interceptions. While he put up respectable numbers, the team’s lackluster performance and missed postseason berth raised questions about his future with the franchise. The Falcons finished the season with a 7-7 record in games started by Cousins, falling short of their playoff aspirations.

With reports emerging that the Falcons are open to trading Cousins and are asking interested teams to cover a portion of his hefty contract, the quarterback’s future in Atlanta seems uncertain. The Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers have been mentioned as potential suitors willing to pay a portion of Cousins’ contract, but his no-trade clause means he ultimately has the final say on his destination.

As the 2025 NFL draft approaches, Cousins’ future with the Falcons hangs in the balance. Will he remain with the team and compete for the starting job against Penix Jr., or will he be traded to a new team looking for an experienced signal-caller? Only time will tell as the offseason unfolds.

In the meantime, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how this situation plays out and what the future holds for Kirk Cousins in the NFL. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as the offseason progresses.
