Chicago police are currently investigating a murder in the Edgewater neighborhood after a man was found shot overnight. The incident occurred in a condo building on the 6000 block of North Sheridan. A doorman at the building called 911 around 2:17 a.m. after hearing a gunshot and discovering blood and other evidence in a hallway.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a 37-year-old man outside with a gunshot wound to his right thigh. Although he was responsive at first, the man unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and passed away at St. Francis Hospital at 3:12 a.m.
It is unclear whether the shooting took place inside the condo building or if the victim was shot outside and then entered the building briefly after being injured. This tragic event marks the sixth shooting in Edgewater this year, with the victim being the second person murdered in the neighborhood. Comparatively, at this point last year, there were five shooting victims in Edgewater, with two victims in both 2023 and 2022.
