This incident underscores the challenges faced by federal officials in enforcing immigration laws in jurisdictions with sanctuary policies.

In response to the DOJ’s concerns, the state of Illinois, Cook County, and the city of Chicago are currently involved in a legal battle over migrant sanctuary policies. The DOJ argues that these policies hinder federal agents from carrying out their duties and pose a threat to public safety.
