Climate activists caused a disruption during a ballet performance at Lincoln Center on Earth Day. Attendees at the theater responded by shouting at the protesters to leave, as captured in a video of the incident.

One of the protesters managed to enter the David H. Koch Theater during the launch of the ballet’s spring season. She used the opportunity to raise awareness about the climate crisis, stating, “It is Earth Day and we are in a climate emergency!”

Some of the theatergoers did not appreciate the interruption and responded with expletives, telling the protesters to stop. The performance was briefly paused, with an announcement made about resolving the issue in the house.

After being escorted out of the theater, the ballet performance resumed without further disturbance. The New York City Ballet confirmed that the show continued as planned.

Prior to the disruption, two activists from the Extinction Rebellion group were outside the theater with signs critiquing the event being held on Earth Day. They voiced concerns about the impact of climate change on humanity and the environment.

Despite the disruption, the ballet performance continued after a brief pause. The protesters’ actions were part of a larger movement to demand accountability and leadership in addressing the climate crisis.

The Extinction Rebellion group also engaged in other acts of protest, including spray-painting the Wall Street Charging Bull and Tesla’s showroom. Additionally, a protester was arrested for graffiti inside Trump Tower the following day.

The actions of the activists were aimed at drawing attention to the urgent need for action on climate change. Their demonstrations highlighted the role of cultural institutions and the silence surrounding the climate crisis.
