Massachusetts authorities are currently investigating the death of a woman found unresponsive along a bike path in Springfield on Tuesday.

According to Springfield Police Department spokesperson Ryan Walsh, officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of an unresponsive individual near Hall of Fame Avenue.

Upon their arrival, they discovered a woman who was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

“The SPD Homicide Unit, led by Captain Trent Duda, is conducting an unattended death investigation in collaboration with the @HampdenDA Murder Unit, pending an autopsy by the Medical Examiner,” Walsh explained.

This latest death occurs amid swirling rumors of a serial killer in New England, following the tragic deaths of seven other individuals, primarily women, across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island from March to April. As of now, authorities have not established any links between the eight victims’ fatalities.

The speculation began in a now-renamed Facebook group titled “New England Serial Killer,” which was altered due to Facebook’s community guidelines. In recent months, human remains have been uncovered in various locations including New Haven, Norwalk, Groton, and Killingly in Connecticut; Foster in Rhode Island; and Framingham, Plymouth, and now Springfield in Massachusetts.
