Stephen A. Smith Reacts To Shannon Leaving ESPN Amid Rape Lawsuit

Published on April 25, 2025 5:54 PM PDT

Stephen A. Smith has never been one to shy away from sharing his opinions, and the recent news of his co-worker Shannon Sharpe stepping away from ESPN amid a rape lawsuit is no exception. In a Friday episode of his YouTube show, Stephen A. addressed Sharpe’s decision to temporarily leave his duties on “First Take”. The two media personalities are friends, and many are curious about how Stephen is processing Shannon’s legal issues.

Expressing his personal opinion, Stephen stated that he does not believe Shannon is guilty of the allegations against him. While acknowledging that he was not present for the alleged incident and only knows what has been reported in the media, Stephen finds it hard to believe that Shannon would assault or rape anyone. He emphasized that this is solely his opinion on the matter.

Despite the controversy surrounding Shannon, Stephen expressed his support for his friend. He mentioned that he will be there for Shannon when he returns to ESPN for the football season in the fall, stating, “that’s what friends do, even in the toughest of times.” He emphasized the importance of being there for a friend, even if it means offering support during challenging times.

On Shannon’s part, he has maintained his innocence and even offered his accuser a $10 million settlement, which she declined. As the legal process unfolds, both Shannon and Stephen A. are navigating through this difficult situation with the support of their friends and colleagues.
