Dave Portnoy Rules Out Political Run Despite Passion for Social Issues
Despite his nickname as El Presidente, Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, has made it clear that he has no intentions of running for political office. In a recent interview on “The Resilient Life” podcast with Ryan Manion, Portnoy expressed that there is a zero percent chance of him ever pursuing a career in politics.
While Portnoy has entertained the idea in the past, he firmly believes that he can make a greater impact outside of political office. “Never,” Portnoy stated. “I’ve thought about it. I get so mad, but I’m a firm believer you can get a lot more done not in political office.”
When Manion suggested that change may only come if people with “common sense” enter political office, Portnoy remained pessimistic. “But I don’t know that we’re ever going to get there,” he added.
Despite his strong views on social issues and politics, Portnoy has chosen to remain an observer rather than a participant. He has been a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump and has criticized the Democratic Party, including accusing them of attempting to “hijack democracy.”
Portnoy’s stance may echo that of other public figures who have ruled out political runs, only to later change their minds. As Justin Bieber famously said, “never say never.” However, for now, it seems that Portnoy is content to use his platform at Barstool Sports to advocate for his beliefs without seeking political power.
