Google’s AI-based note-taking and research assistant, NotebookLM, has announced the launch of its Audio Overviews feature in 76 new languages. This exciting update allows users to generate podcasts with AI virtual hosts based on documents they upload to the app, such as course readings or legal briefs.

The main goal of this feature is to provide users with an alternative way to digest and understand the information contained in their documents. By expanding the availability of Audio Overviews to more languages, Google is making it easier for people to access this helpful tool in their preferred language.

Previously, Audio Overviews were generated in the user’s preferred language. However, Google is now introducing a new option called “Output Language” that allows users to select the language in which their Audio Overviews are generated. This flexibility enables users to create multilingual content or study materials effortlessly.

In a blog post, Google gave an example of how this feature could be used by a teacher preparing a lesson on the Amazon rainforest. The teacher can share resources in various languages, such as a Portuguese documentary, a Spanish research paper, and English study reports, with their students. The students can then upload these documents and generate an Audio Overview of key insights in their preferred language.

The newly supported languages for Audio Overviews include Afrikaans, Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bulgarian, Bengali, Catalan, Czech, Danish, German, Greek, Spanish (European), Spanish (Latin American), Spanish (Mexico), Estonian, Basque, Persian, Finnish, Filipino, French (European), French (Canada), Galician, Gujarati, Hindi, Croatian, Haitian Creole, Hungarian, Armenian, Indonesian, Icelandic, Italian, Hebrew, and Japanese, as well as many others.

Overall, this expansion of Audio Overviews to more languages demonstrates Google’s commitment to providing a diverse and inclusive user experience. Users can now enjoy the benefits of this feature in their preferred language, making it easier to access and understand information in their documents.
