Karen Read was reportedly heard saying, “I hit him, I hit him, I hit him” after discovering her Boston cop boyfriend, John O’Keefe, dead in the snow, a crucial witness testified in court on Wednesday.

The witness, Jennifer McCabe, revealed that she heard her distressed friend making this alleged confession to a first responder after they found O’Keefe’s body on January 29, 2022.

McCabe, who was present with Read at the time and was the one who dialed 911, intervened because she thought her friend was speaking irrationally.

Karen Read allegedly struck John O’Keefe with her Lexus SUV after a night of drinking at a friend’s house in Canton, according to reports, and then abandoned him to perish.

At the Dedham, Massachusetts courtroom, McCabe testified that Read was in a state of hysteria and irrationality. She was screaming, asking repeatedly if O’Keefe was dead, showing signs of being all over the place emotionally.

McCabe took the stand again for cross-examination in the dramatic murder trial on Wednesday. She previously testified that Read kept questioning, “Did I hit him?” and “Could I have hit him?”

Prosecutors claim that Read, aged 45, ran over O’Keefe, aged 46, with her Lexus SUV after a night of heavy drinking, then left him to die as a snowstorm loomed.

Following a frantic call from Read around 5:30 a.m. the next morning, McCabe informed the court that she, Read, and another woman drove to O’Keefe’s residence to find the missing Boston cop.
