Isaac Thomas, a defendant from the events of January 6 and a testament to resilience after a harrowing childhood in Michigan’s foster care system, received a presidential pardon from Donald J. Trump on January 20.

However, this act of clemency, while symbolically significant, has not mitigated the severe challenges posed by the current political climate under the Biden Administration. For many, including Thomas, life post-pardon has proven to be fraught with difficulties.

Having been wrongfully incarcerated for several months due to the January 6 incident, Thomas faced pretrial detention and political repercussions, only to return to a society that mirrors the dysfunction of his early years. After aging out of the foster care system without a support network, Isaac found himself navigating adulthood alone.

Despite receiving a full pardon, Thomas continues to struggle with basic living expenses. Just this week, he faced the unsettling reality of having his electricity cut off.

You can help Isaac here.

Recently, Isaac was reinstated at the assisted living facility where he had worked prior to his arrest, yet he still requires significant assistance to get back on his feet.

He has managed to secure a “rent-to-own” arrangement for a modest two-bedroom home in Flint, Michigan, but the financial burden of utilities and other expenses remains a challenge. He is optimistic that returning to work will enable him to save money and achieve financial stability.

Isaac’s narrative serves as a stark reminder that, even when justice is granted on paper, many individuals associated with January 6 continue to grapple with economic struggles, social stigma, and a sense of isolation. For those like him, who have faced adversity from a young age, the path to rebuilding their lives can feel insurmountable.

Yet, amid these hardships, he retains hope. Isaac shared with , “I still believe that God has a plan and that he is going to continue to use this to make me stronger.”
