Manchester United put on a dominant display as they defeated 10-man Athletic Bilbao 3-0 in their UEFA Europa League semi-final first-leg clash at San Mames. Casemiro opened the scoring for the Red Devils, with Bruno Fernandes adding a brace to seal the victory. Athletic Bilbao’s Daniel Vivian was sent off in the first half, further complicating matters for the Spanish side.

The game started with Athletic Bilbao on the front foot, creating several chances but failing to convert. Manchester United, however, capitalized on their opportunities, with Casemiro heading in a goal from a Harry Maguire cross. Shortly after, Vivian’s foul in the box led to a penalty for United, which Fernandes coolly converted. The Portuguese midfielder then added another goal just before halftime, putting the visitors in a commanding position.

The second half saw Manchester United maintain possession and control of the game, with Athletic Bilbao struggling to create chances. The Red Devils could have extended their lead but settled for a comfortable three-goal advantage heading into the second leg at Old Trafford.

Here are the player ratings for Manchester United from the thrilling first-leg encounter:

  • Andre Onana (6/10): Made crucial saves and kept a clean sheet.
  • Victor Lindelof (7/10): Excellent on the ball and played a key role in moving United forward.
  • Harry Maguire (8/10): Contributed both offensively and defensively before being substituted.
  • Leny Yoro (6/10): Put in a solid defensive performance.
  • Noussair Mazraoui (7/10): Linked up well with Lindelof and made crucial tackles.
  • Manuel Ugarte (8/10): Set up two goals and made a significant impact in midfield.
  • Casemiro (8/10): Scored a goal and dominated in midfield.
  • Patrick Dorgu (5/10): A threat going forward but neglected defensive duties.
  • Bruno Fernandes (9/10): Scored two goals and created chances from midfield.
  • Alejandro Garnacho (5/10): Lacked quality in the final third.
  • Rasmus Hojlund (6/10): Used his pace and physicality effectively.

    Substitutes:

  • Matthijs de Ligt (5/10): Helped see out the win.
  • Mason Mount (5/10): Energetic performance but picked up a booking.
  • Luke Shaw (5/10): Quietly effective at left wing-back.
  • Amad (5/10): Showed promising touches in his return from injury.
  • Kobbie Mainoo (5/10): Brought on to help close out the game.

Overall, Manchester United put on a strong performance to secure a comfortable lead in the Europa League semi-final. The second leg promises to be an exciting encounter at Old Trafford as United look to book their spot in the final.
