A PROCLAMATION

Every day, firefighters embody the essence of bravery, racing into perilous situations to shield their fellow citizens from harm. Yet, we must face the heartbreaking truth that not all heroes return home. The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, taking place in Emmitsburg, Maryland, serves as a solemn tribute to both volunteer and professional firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice over the past year in the line of duty.

This weekend, thousands will gather to celebrate the lives and legacies of these fallen heroes, offering support to the Fire Hero Families, sharing cherished memories, and forging connections among those who comprehend the unique blend of pride and grief that accompanies their losses. Across our nation, courageous individuals exemplify heroism daily, willingly placing their lives at risk for the welfare of others. We owe a debt of gratitude to every American who embraces this noble profession, recognizing the inherent dangers it entails.

Moments of extraordinary valor within American history are forever etched in our collective memory, particularly those involving firefighters. On September 11, 2001, as chaos unfolded, firefighters bravely entered the inferno of the twin towers, demonstrating unparalleled courage in the face of terror. Earlier this year, they battled relentless wildfires in Southern California, showcasing their unwavering dedication to safeguarding lives and property. Such heroic actions inspire a profound sense of pride and gratitude for those who stand guard over our safety.

One firefighter, Corey Comperatore, holds a special place in my heart. He lost his life while heroically defending his family from a barrage of gunfire during my rally last July in Butler, Pennsylvania. His selflessness on that tragic day perfectly encapsulates the unwavering dedication and courage that characterize America’s firefighters.

My wife, the First Lady, and I extend our heartfelt appreciation to all who serve their communities and our nation in this extraordinary capacity. Firefighters may often enter our lives during moments of crisis, yet they are unwaveringly prepared to protect our citizens and neighborhoods every day. This National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, we honor the American patriots who laid down their lives in service to others and offer our prayers for the brave families who persevere in their absence.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, hereby proclaim May 3 through May 4, 2025, as National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. On Sunday, May 4, 2025, in accordance with Public Law 107-51, the flag of the United States will be flown at half-staff at all Federal office buildings in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this first day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.

DONALD J. TRUMP
