A concealed carry holder accused of violent altercation in Wrigleyville

A concealed carry holder, Zully Sotelo, allegedly involved in pistol-whipping and firing a gun over the head of a woman in Wrigleyville last weekend has raised concerns after she was not taken to court for a hearing under the SAFE-T Act, as reported by Chicago police.

Police officers on patrol in the Wrigleyville bar area responded to a gunshot and witnessed individuals fleeing from a parked minivan near Clark and Newport streets around 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 26.

Upon approaching the van, they discovered Sotelo standing beside it with a bullet and spent shell casing on the sidewalk, as mentioned in a CPD report.

Witnesses identified Sotelo as the individual who allegedly used a gun to assault a 26-year-old woman before firing the weapon above her head. A 9-millimeter handgun was found on the van’s floorboard by the police.

Reportedly, Sotelo exhibited signs of intoxication, with a blood alcohol concentration of .140, significantly surpassing the legal limit for driving. The injured woman was advised by paramedics to seek medical attention for a broken nose.

Sotelo was taken into custody on charges of reckless discharge of a firearm (felony) and battery and carrying a concealed firearm while under the influence (misdemeanors).

However, Sotelo was released from the Town Hall (19th) District station without a court hearing, as she did not meet the criteria of the Pretrial Fairness Act, according to the report.
