Prime Video has recently announced a groundbreaking multi-year distribution deal with CJ ENM, a Korean entertainment powerhouse. This partnership will bring a plethora of premium K-content to Prime Video’s global audience, excluding Korea and China.
The deal was unveiled at the WAVES Bazaar, part of the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit in Mumbai. Prime Video has secured worldwide rights to both new and library titles from CJ ENM, with the agreement set to kick off with the fantasy romance “Head Over Heels” premiering in late June. Additionally, exclusive titles are scheduled for release throughout 2025 and 2026, including fan-favorite shows like “Her Private Life,” “Another Miss Oh,” and “Mouse.”
One of the key highlights of this collaboration is the enhanced accessibility that Prime Video will offer. Subtitles in 28 languages and dubbing in 11 languages will be provided for all new Korean content launches, ensuring a seamless viewing experience for audiences worldwide.
Kelly Day, head of international and VP at Prime Video, expressed the platform’s commitment to showcasing the best of Korean entertainment to its customers globally. She emphasized the universal appeal of Korean storytelling and highlighted the success of previous titles like “Marry My Husband” and “No Gain, No Love” on the platform.
Gaurav Gandhi, VP of APAC and MENA at Prime Video, reaffirmed the service’s goal to be the go-to entertainment hub for consumers, offering a diverse range of global content, including popular stories from Asia.
For CJ ENM, this partnership signifies an opportunity to expand its reach internationally. Jangho Seo, executive VP of CJ ENM’s content business division, expressed excitement about bringing their unique Korean stories to a broader global audience. He highlighted the universal appeal of their storytelling and praised Prime Video’s global reach and commitment to multi-language subtitles and dubbing strategies.
CJ ENM, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, has been instrumental in the global expansion of Korean entertainment, with successes like the Oscar-winning film “Parasite” and hit TV series like “Queen of Tears.”
The Prime Video deal was just one of the many exciting announcements made at the WAVES market, including the confirmation of “Devi Chowdhurani” as the first Indian film to secure official Indo-U.K. co-production status. The market also saw the launch of “Violated,” a film by Dimple Dugar, and the proposal for an Indian film festival in New Zealand.
Overall, the WAVES market has been a tremendous success, attracting thousands of buyers, sellers, and projects. The partnership with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has further solidified its position as a leading platform for the global entertainment industry.
