Lindsey Hughes (Chicago Police Department)

Accused of Armed Robbery and Fleeing in Stolen Car

When Lindsey Hughes was first in the spotlight last September for allegedly striking a bicyclist on the Lakefront Trail in Uptown, little did we know that she would find herself in even deeper trouble months later. Recently, Hughes has been accused of robbing a man at gunpoint in Logan Square and then fleeing from Chicago police in a stolen car that may have been connected to a murder on the same day.

Prosecutors successfully argued for Hughes to be kept in jail this time, a stark contrast to her previous release pending trial.

Armed Robbery Incident

The robbery incident took place around 6:30 a.m. when a 30-year-old man reported being robbed at gunpoint in the 2100 block of North Whipple by a man who exited a silver sedan, possibly a Kia. The suspect then fled in the car driven by a woman.

Later that day, a Chicago police tactical unit identified a silver Kia Rio matching the description of a vehicle involved in a murder at Sanford Foods in Logan Square. The suspect fled from the police but was eventually apprehended after crashing into an unmarked squad car.

Legal Proceedings

Hughes, identified as the driver of the stolen Rio, was charged with armed robbery, possession of stolen vehicles, and criminal damage to government property. Despite not being implicated in the murder at Sanford Foods, Hughes was deemed a flight risk due to her previous violent offense on the Lakefront Trail.

Previous Offense

In the earlier incident, Hughes allegedly intentionally struck a bicyclist on the Lakefront Trail, causing injuries to the victim. She was charged with felony aggravated battery, reckless driving, and leaving the scene but was released pending trial.

Judge Rivera’s decision to detain Hughes was influenced by her prior violent offense and the risk she posed to the community.

Conclusion

Lindsey Hughes’ recent run-ins with the law paint a troubling picture of her involvement in criminal activities. From the initial bike trail incident to the armed robbery and car theft, her actions have put her in the center of serious legal proceedings. The outcome of her trials will determine her future and the consequences she will face for her alleged crimes.
