Angel Reyes Arrested for Murder of Damian Dunning

Angel Reyes, the prime suspect in the shooting death of Damian Dunning on the Stevenson Expressway in Chicago, has been arrested by Illinois State Police investigators. The tragic incident took place over a year ago, on March 3, 2024, when Dunning, a beloved father and veteran postal worker, was fatally shot while driving near the expressway’s junction with Lake Shore Drive.

According to prosecutors, Reyes attempted to sell the murder weapon just a day after the fatal shooting. Evidence gathered by investigators includes phone data placing Reyes in the gunman’s vehicle at the time of the incident, as well as videos on his phone showing him with the weapon used in the crime.

In a separate incident in February, ISP agents attempted to stop a vehicle in which Reyes was a passenger. Reyes fled from the car on foot but was apprehended shortly after. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of an AK-48 rifle, resulting in additional charges of aggravated possession of a weapon against Reyes.

After months of investigation, authorities were able to gather enough evidence to charge Reyes with first-degree murder in connection with Dunning’s death. Judge Susana Ortiz ordered Reyes to be detained pending trial.
