Anysphere Secures $900 Million in Funding for AI-Powered Coding Tool

Anysphere, the creator of the innovative AI-powered coding tool Cursor, has successfully raised $900 million in a recent funding round led by Thrive Capital, as reported by The Financial Times citing sources familiar with the deal.

Joining Thrive Capital in this funding round are Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Accel, with the valuation of Anysphere reaching approximately $9 billion according to the report.

Previously, Cursor had raised $105 million from Thrive and a16z at a valuation of $2.5 billion as reported by JS in December. Thrive Capital led the previous round with a16z also participating as investors.

While other investors such as Index Ventures and Benchmark are eager to support Anysphere, existing investors are also keen not to miss the opportunity to further invest in the company.

The AI-powered coding sector is gaining traction with other startups like Windsurf attracting investor interest. JS revealed in February that Windsurf, a competitor to Anysphere, was in talks to raise funds at a $3 billion valuation. Furthermore, OpenAI, an investor in Anysphere, has reportedly shown interest in acquiring Windsurf at a similar valuation.
