Every summer, the Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art (MFA) program at Maine College of Art & Design (MECA&D) brings together low- and full-residency graduate candidates for an eight-week intensive in Portland, Maine. This experience allows the emerging artists to bond, explore interdisciplinary conversations, and be challenged and informed, setting the stage for their artistic journey. A highlight of this summer program is the Summer Visiting Artist Lecture Series, where prestigious artists engage with the candidates through lectures, critiques, and studio visits.

The 2025 lineup for the Summer Visiting Artist Lecture Series, scheduled from June 16 to July 30, promises an exciting and diverse range of artists:

  • Vincent Tiley blurs the lines between art and fashion with garment-based durational performances that delve into the language of clothing.
  • Pap Souleye Fall is a Senegalese-American artist known for his exploration of transmedia possibilities across sculpture, installation, performance, cosplay, digital media, and comics.
  • Dr. Nadia Buyse is a multifaceted artist, theorist, cultural activist, and musician whose diverse music spans genres and is characterized by a DIY aesthetic, transmedial performance, and video art.
  • Anne Harris has spent the last three decades immersed in painting and drawing, particularly in the realm of self-portraiture.
  • Paul D’Amato draws inspiration from his upbringing in Boston during the civil rights movement, focusing his work on themes of class, community, and everyday life.
  • Faythe Levine, a curator, photographer, director, and author, is known for her contributions to the DIY indie craft movement.
  • Yoko Inoue is a versatile artist whose practice encompasses sculpture, installation, collaborative projects, and public intervention performance art.
  • Stay tuned for more exciting additions to the lineup!

The 2024 MFA Visiting Artists Series featured notable names such as Jane Wong, Demian DinéYahzi, and Sonya Schönberger.
