Man Arrested for Alarming Prank on Ex-Girlfriend

A South Carolina man’s attempt at a prank went terribly wrong when he allegedly hid in his ex-girlfriend’s shower and emerged with a knife in hand. Jackson Collum Arnold, 25, startled his former girlfriend when she arrived home unexpectedly in the middle of the night, Charleston police reported.

Arnold, wearing only a pair of his ex-girlfriend’s bike shorts and a hat covering his face, brandished a knife as he tried to scare the victim in what he claimed was an effort to “lighten the mood.” The victim accused Arnold of holding the knife to her head and pretending to slice her throat, although no physical harm was done, according to a police report.

Collum Arnold allegedly hid in his ex-girlfriend’s shower and then emerged with a knife when she got home early Sunday in an alarming attempt to “prank” her and “lighten the mood.”

The victim, fearing for her safety, managed to push Arnold away and remove the shorts from his face, revealing his identity as her ex-boyfriend. She told police that she believed she was about to be raped before realizing who he was.

Arnold claimed that he entered the home to surprise his ex-girlfriend after they had a fight earlier that night. However, the victim described the incident as terrifying and traumatic, stating that she thought she was in serious danger.

Police found Arnold’s underwear in the bathroom, indicating that he was naked from the waist down during the incident. He was arrested on charges of assault and battery, first-degree burglary, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Police lights at the scene of the incident
The victim accused Arnold of holding a knife to the side of her head, and when she pushed him away, he pretended he was slicing her throat, though the knife didn’t touch skin.

Arnold went to great lengths to carry out the prank, including parking far away from the property and leaving his phone at home to avoid being tracked by a location-sharing app. The victim’s family, who lives in the house attached to the garage where the incident occurred, was unaware of the situation until the police arrived.

This ill-conceived prank not only caused distress to the victim but also led to serious legal consequences for Arnold. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of considering the impact of our actions on others before engaging in risky or harmful behavior.
