On National Nurses Day, we take a moment to express our sincere appreciation for the remarkable individuals who have committed themselves to the vital and honorable field of nursing. Their roles are indispensable as they deliver quality, compassionate, and essential care to patients across the nation.
Nursing represents the largest segment of our healthcare workforce, boasting approximately 4.3 million actively licensed registered nurses. From the battlefields of war to the corridors of local hospitals, nurses consistently demonstrate an unwavering dedication to those in need, offering hope, assistance, and healing during the most challenging times.
Currently, nurses are on the frontlines, providing crucial care to millions of Americans grappling with chronic diseases. Alarmingly, six out of ten Americans are living with at least one chronic condition, while four out of ten are dealing with two or more. These troubling statistics have surged in recent years, leading to significant hardships for those affected and exerting immense strain on our healthcare system. My administration acknowledges this pressing issue and is devoted to the initiative of Making America Healthy Again. Through this plan, we aim to tackle the underlying causes of chronic diseases, diminish their prevalence, and ensure that nurses receive the necessary support to continue their life-saving work.
We are also revitalizing the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, aligning it with its original purpose to motivate individuals to enter essential public service roles, such as nursing. By doing so, we aspire to inspire a new generation to pursue careers in these critical fields, ultimately contributing to a healthier and more resilient nation.
Nurses embody the essence of America and exemplify the boundless strength of the human spirit. As we stand on the brink of a new Golden Age, our nurses are poised to fortify and enhance the health of our country. On this National Nurses Day, Melania and I join our fellow citizens in extending our heartfelt gratitude and deepest respect to these invaluable healthcare professionals.
