The skeletal remains found in a dilapidated shed across from a New Hampshire state prison have been identified as Michael Schilz, a wanted sex offender. The discovery was made after Concord Police received an anonymous tip on April 21 about a skeleton in the eerie structure located near the prison. Schilz, 59, had never been reported missing to authorities and his body appeared to have been in the shed for an extended period of time.

An autopsy was conducted on the remains, which confirmed the identity of Schilz. He was a homeless man who was once featured as the New Hampshire Department of Corrections’ “Fugitive of the Week” in 2023 for violating his parole. Schilz had a criminal record, having been convicted in 2005 of aggravated felonious sexual assault on a minor.

The shed where Schilz’s remains were found is described as resembling something out of a Stephen King novel, with its haunted appearance and dark history. The property had been the site of a fatal arson in 2005, which remained a cold case until an arrest was made in 2018. The shed sits facing North State Street, surrounded by overgrown vegetation and an ominous pond at the back.

Employees at a nearby massage parlor expressed shock and surprise upon learning about the discovery of Schilz’s remains. The property has been mostly vacant since the arson incident, adding to the eerie atmosphere of the shed where the skeletal remains were found.

The exact cause of Schilz’s death has not been determined, and officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his demise. The case has garnered attention due to the mysterious nature of the discovery and the unsettling history of the property where the shed is located.
