Apple Developing Specialized Chips for Smart Glasses, Macs, and AI Servers

According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple is in the process of developing new chips that will power smart glasses, similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban Meta, as well as more powerful Macs and AI servers. This move is seen as a strategic step by Apple to stay competitive in the tech market.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reveals that one of the chips being developed is inspired by the low-power processors found in the Apple Watch. The tech giant is working towards mass production of these chips with TSMC by the end of next year or by 2027, as per the report.

Focusing on Smart Glasses

Smart glasses are a key focus for Apple, with CEO Tim Cook reportedly determined to outshine Meta in this market. Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has seen success with its Ray-Ban Meta glasses, selling approximately 2 million pairs since 2023.

Apple’s approach to smart glasses involves exploring non-AR glasses that utilize cameras to scan the surrounding environment, with AI playing a crucial role in assisting users. One of the chips currently in development will be responsible for controlling these cameras and other components efficiently without draining the device’s battery, according to the Bloomberg report.
