NBC has made the decision to cancel the police procedural series “The Irrational” after two seasons, according to Variety. The show, which originally premiered on NBC in 2023, stars Jesse L. Martin alongside Maahra Hill, Travina Springer, Molly Kunz, and Arash DeMaxi. Based on Dan Ariely’s book “Predictably Irrational,” the series follows the world-renowned professor of behavioral science, Alec Mercer, as he applies his unique expertise to solve high-stakes cases involving governments, law enforcement, and corporations.
The show had a promising start in its first season but experienced a significant decline in viewership in its second season. NBC, which has a number of other shows on the bubble, will be focusing on primetime NBA programming next season. Despite canceling “The Irrational,” NBC has renewed popular shows like “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: SVU,” and the “One Chicago” series. Comedies such as “Happy’s Place” and “St. Denis Medical” have also been renewed, while “Night Court” and “Lopez vs. Lopez” have been axed.
Other dramas like “The Hunting Party,” “Suits LA,” “Found,” and “Grosse Pointe Garden Society” are still awaiting news on their future ahead of NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation on May 12 in New York. Deadline was the first to report the cancellation of “The Irrational.”
