In a recent press briefing on Friday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt firmly rebuffed questions from reporters insinuating that President Trump may be leveraging his position for personal or familial financial gain, drawing a parallel to allegations against Joe Biden.
During the session, two reporters raised concerns about potential foreign financial influences on the President, particularly during his upcoming official trip to the Middle East. Notably, Andrew Eggar from The Bulwark highlighted the controversial Trump cryptocurrency memecoin, suggesting that significant purchases of this currency could be an attempt to sway the President’s trade policies.
Leavitt responded with assurance, stating that President Trump is âabiding by all conflict of interest lawsâ and remains focused on prioritizing the American public’s interests. This was her calm rebuttal amidst a stream of provocative inquiries.
Eggar: There are individuals purchasing this coin who seem to see it as a means to influence the presidentâs views. A logistics company recently announced plans to invest $20 million in the coin to advocate for free trade between the US and Mexico. If buyers are motivated by that intent, are they simply throwing their money away?
Leavitt: I can assure you, the president acts solely in the interests of the American public, which is his focus. Full Stop. Thatâs his intention, and he is dedicated to doing whatâs best for our country.
However, Leavitt later unleashed her frustration when a different reporter probed into whether the President would be accompanied by family members on his Middle East trip for business purposes.
âI find it frankly absurd that anyone would even entertain the notion that President Trump is acting for his personal benefit. He left behind a life of luxury and a thriving real estate empire to serve the public, not just once, but twice,â Leavitt stated forcefully in response to both this question and Eggarâs earlier inquiry.
She further criticized the press for their failure to challenge former White House Press Secretaries about Biden’s substantial earnings through influence peddling, branding him a âcareer politician profiting off his office.â

He voluntarily stepped away from a life of luxury and a prosperous real estate career to serve in public office, not just once, but twice. Furthermore, the American public reelected him to this White House because they trust he puts the nation’s interests first. This is a President who, in fact, has lost money during his presidency. I donât recall similar scrutiny directed at my predecessor regarding a career politician who was evidently profiting from his position. That is simply not what President Trump does, and this White House upholds the highest ethical standards.
