Onboard and off the Mexican navy tall ship, sea-nic views were plentiful.

A total of 277 crewmembers ceremonially sailed the CuauhtĂ©moc into lower Manhattan on Tuesday, offering New Yorkers a glimpse of what to expect at the upcoming Sail4th event honoring America’s 250th birthday.

Amid ongoing tariff tensions, the Cuauhtémoc sailed through New York Harbor with naval cadets standing tall on the 147-foot mast, dressed in cultural Mexican attire, while three long horns sounded as a symbol of goodwill between Mexico and the US.

The vessel, designed in Spain in 1982 for cadet training, will be among the 30 international tall ships participating in the Harbor parade on July 4, 2026, alongside smaller vessels, a military flyover, and a fireworks display.

Capt. Andrew McGovern, a board member for Sail4th, emphasized the focus on cultural exchanges during the event, stating, “The visual will be unbelievable, and the events are going to be magical.”

The Post had the exclusive opportunity to sail on the Cuauhtémoc as it arrived at Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport, following its global voyage that included stops in Jamaica, Iceland, and Portugal.

The class of 175 cadets aboard the CuauhtĂ©moc represents the largest group in the nation’s navy history, reflecting the growth in participation in sailing training.

Lt. Sg. Hugo Calvario, the ship’s orthopedic surgeon, mentioned the increase in cadet numbers and the need for trainees to take on more responsibilities as the crew expands.

During the docking process, cadets demonstrated their skill by climbing the ship’s ropes and manning the yards as a sign of respect upon entering the port.

Next year’s event may require cadets to stand on the towering masts for an extended period as the parade progresses through the harbor.

Upon arrival at Pier 17, cadets showcased their heritage by wearing traditional Mexican attire, symbolizing a celebration of their culture on foreign soil.

The Sail4th event in 2026 will coincide with the World Cup and Fleet Week in New York City, promising a week filled with festivities and international camaraderie.
