Krysten Ritter is making her highly anticipated return as the fierce and fearless Marvel hero, Jessica Jones. The exciting news was revealed during Disney’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York, where Ritter shared the stage with Charlie Cox, the star of “Daredevil Born Again,” to announce her involvement in the show’s second season.
“It’s truly a thrill to be back, reprising the role of Jessica after three seasons and ‘The Defenders,’ and now being a part of the MCU,” Ritter expressed. “I can’t wait to bring this iconic character back to life, and I promise there are plenty of surprises in store for Jessica Jones. This upcoming season is going to be absolutely amazing!”
Ritter initially brought Jessica Jones to life in the self-titled Netflix series that premiered in 2015. “Jessica Jones” was part of a lineup of Marvel shows on Netflix, including “Daredevil,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist,” “The Punisher,” and the crossover series “The Defenders.” Despite its popularity, “Jessica Jones” concluded after three seasons, with its final season airing on Netflix in 2019. The cancellation came as Disney made plans to introduce Marvel Cinematic Universe shows on Disney+.
The actress received widespread acclaim for her portrayal of the character, a former superhero turned private investigator with super strength and the ability to fly. Following the Netflix-Marvel deal, there was a two-year restriction preventing the characters from appearing in any non-Netflix series or films after cancellation.
Disney has begun reviving these beloved characters, with “Daredevil: Born Again” featuring Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio premiering on Disney+ in March 2025. Jon Bernthal also made a comeback in the series as Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher, with the second season already in development.
Fans can expect more exciting updates and developments in the Marvel universe as these iconic characters make their return. Stay tuned for more news and announcements as the saga continues to unfold on Disney’s streaming platform.
