Introducing “Chad Powers”: The New Hulu Comedy Starring Glen Powell
“Chad Powers” is set to hit the screens this fall, with Glen Powell taking on the role of the titular character. The Hulu comedy, scheduled to release on Sept. 30, follows the story of a washed-up football player named Russ Holliday who adopts a new persona to revive his career.
Powell plays the role of bad-boy quarterback Russ Holliday, who reinvents himself as the affable Chad Powers to join a struggling Southern football team. The official logline describes the show as: “When bad behavior derails hotshot QB Russ Holliday’s college career, he reinvents himself as the talented and likable Chad Powers.”
The inspiration for “Chad Powers” stems from a viral 2022 comedy sketch created by Super Bowl-winning quarterback Eli Manning. The sketch, produced by Eli and Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions for ESPN+, featured Eli Manning going incognito as a walk-on at Penn State University’s football tryouts. Manning’s disguise fooled many college football players until he revealed his true identity at the end of the video.
Joining Powell in the cast of “Chad Powers” are Perry Mattfeld as Ricky, Quentin Plair as Coach Byrd, Wynn Everett as Tricia, Frankie A. Rodriguez as Danny, and Steve Zahn as Jake Hudson.
The Manning brothers serve as executive producers of “Chad Powers,” alongside Jamie Horowitz, Ben Brown, and ESPN. Michael Waldron and Adam Fasullo executive produce for Anomaly Pictures, with Luvh Rakhe and Tony Yacenda also serving as executive producers. Powell, in addition to co-creating and co-writing with Waldron, executive produces under his banner Barnstorm Productions.
