Armed Robbers Pistol-Whip Woman in Wrigleyville, Prompting Safety Concerns

In a disturbing incident in Wrigleyville, armed men carried out a violent robbery in the early hours of Friday morning. A 22-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were sitting in a car on Roscoe Street when they were approached by two individuals around 1:07 a.m. The suspects, armed and masked, demanded the victims’ belongings. However, the situation escalated when one of the assailants struck the woman in the head and face with a handgun.

Following the assault, the robbers fled the scene in a white vehicle, potentially a Nissan sedan. The woman, shaken but not in need of immediate medical attention, drove to the 1800 block of West Belmont to seek help.

Recent warnings from the Chicago Police Department have highlighted a trend of robbery crews targeting individuals in Wrigleyville and Gold Coast areas, particularly as they wait for rideshares after nights out. Of the five reported robberies in Wrigleyville, three occurred in the 3500 block of North Clark, close to the site of Friday’s violent incident.

These robberies typically involve three or four perpetrators who use force or display weapons to steal valuables from their victims. In some cases, the robbers have even gained access to victims’ bank accounts through stolen phones. The specific locations of the Wrigleyville robberies include:

  • 3500 block of North Clark – January 5 at 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.
  • 3500 block of North Clark – January 11 at 1:10 a.m.
  • 1000 block of West Newport – February 9 at 2 a.m.
  • 3500 block of North Clark – February 23 at 1:55 a.m.
  • 3600 block of North Clark – February 23 at 3:45 a.m.

While the spike in Wrigleyville robberies is concerning, the overall robbery reports in the Lakeview-based Town Hall (19th) District have decreased by 38% compared to last year, with 90 cases reported as of the most recent data.

It is essential for residents and visitors to remain vigilant in these areas and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. The community and law enforcement agencies continue to work together to address these security concerns and prevent further incidents.
