George Wendt, the beloved American actor and comedian known for his iconic role as Norm Peterson on the hit NBC sitcom “Cheers,” passed away at the age of 76 at his home. Wendt’s career began in the vibrant Chicago improv scene, where he honed his comedic skills at The Second City in the 1970s. His breakthrough came when he landed the role of Norm Peterson, the lovable barfly with his famous catchphrase “Afternoon everybody,” on “Cheers.” Wendt’s portrayal of Norm earned him six consecutive Emmy nominations and solidified his place in television history.
