Two individuals were injured in a shooting at a homeless encampment in Humboldt Park early Sunday morning, Chicago police reported. The incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. under a viaduct in the 3000 block of West Chicago Avenue.
Authorities stated that an unidentified suspect fired multiple shots from a black SUV, possibly a Cadillac Escalade, before fleeing eastbound. The victims, a 59-year-old man and a woman in her 50s, were both struck by gunfire. The man suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg and was reported to be in good condition. The woman, who was shot in her left shoulder, was listed in critical condition.
Both victims were promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment. As of now, police have not determined a motive for the shooting, and the suspect remains at large. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
