Anthropic, a leading AI company, has recently announced the rollout of a new feature for its Claude chatbot apps – voice mode. This feature, currently in beta, will allow users of the Claude mobile app to engage in spoken conversations with the chatbot. The voice mode will be available in English in the coming weeks, as per Anthropic’s official account on X and updated documentation on their website.

One user on X has already reported gaining access to the voice mode, which is powered by Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 4 model. This new feature aims to make interacting with Claude more convenient, especially when users’ hands are occupied. With voice mode, users can speak to Claude and receive responses through voice, allowing for a more natural and intuitive conversation experience. Additionally, key points will be displayed on-screen as Claude speaks, and users can switch between text and voice modes seamlessly.

Voice mode is not a new concept in the world of AI chatbots, with other companies like OpenAI and Google offering similar features for their chatbots. Anthropic’s voice mode will enable users to discuss documents, images, and more, with the option to choose from five different voice options. Paid Claude subscribers will also have access to a Google Workspace connector, allowing voice mode to integrate with Google Calendar and Gmail. However, free users will have usage limits when it comes to voice conversations.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Anthropic’s CPO Mike Krieger confirmed the company’s plans to introduce voice capabilities for Claude. Anthropic has been in discussions with Amazon, their major investor and partner, as well as voice-focused AI startup ElevenLabs, to explore potential partnerships for enhancing the voice features of Claude. The outcome of these partnerships remains uncertain at this time.

Overall, the introduction of voice mode for Claude represents a significant step forward in enhancing the user experience of the chatbot app. With the ability to engage in spoken conversations and access a variety of features through voice commands, users can expect a more seamless and efficient interaction with Claude.
