A new GoFundMe campaign has been launched for Bethany MaGee, the 26-year-old woman who was brutally set on fire while riding a Blue Line train in the Loop. The attack, which took place on November 17, has shocked the local community and garnered national attention. The suspect, 50-year-old Lawrence Reed, is currently in custody facing federal terrorism charges.

After a week of anonymity, Bethany’s older brother, John, has decided to publicly identify his sister as the victim of the horrific attack. In a heartfelt message on the GoFundMe page, John expressed his desire to respect Bethany’s privacy while also seeking support for her recovery.

While most of Bethany’s immediate medical expenses are covered by insurance and a victims’ fund, John emphasized the need for financial assistance to ease the burden on his sister during her long road to recovery. The GoFundMe campaign has already raised over $19,000 towards its initial goal of $24,000.

John MaGee shared a touching tribute to his sister in the campaign narrative, highlighting Bethany’s qualities as a beloved family member and friend. He described her as a sensitive, caring, and imaginative individual who brings joy to those around her. Despite the challenges she faces, the MaGee family remains grateful for the outpouring of support and prayers from the community.

As the holiday season approaches, the MaGee family is thankful for the opportunity to stand by Bethany’s side and support her on her journey to recovery. They have asked for privacy and understanding during this difficult time, emphasizing that Bethany’s story is hers to share when she is ready.
