‘Forever,’ ‘Paradise’ Among This Year’s AAFCA TV Honors Winners

‘Forever,’ ‘Paradise’ Among This Year’s AAFCA TV Honors Winners

The African American Film Critics Association recently announced the winners of its annual AAFCA TV Honors, highlighting outstanding achievements in television. Netflix’s “Forever” and Hulu’s “Paradise” took top honors, with “Paradise” winning best drama and best actor for Sterling K. Brown, and “Forever” being recognized for best new show, best writing, and best director.

The 7th annual AAFCA TV Honors ceremony, set to take place at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on August 23, will also honor industry leaders with special achievement awards. Sony Pictures TV chairman Keith Le Goy will receive the TV Vanguard Award, Disney Branded TV president Ayo Davis will be presented with the Salute to Excellence Award, and OWN TV president Tina Perry will receive the Visionary Award. Additionally, writer/producer Mara Brock Akil, actress/comedian Michelle Buteau, producer/director Nneka Onuorah, and actress/author Denise Nicholas will be honored for their contributions to television.

Gil Robertson, AAFCA co-founder and president, praised the honorees for their leadership in the industry, describing them as the “heartbeat of the television industry.” He emphasized the importance of innovative leadership in navigating the challenges faced by the entertainment industry in a post-COVID world.

The winners of the AAFCA TV Honors were chosen by AAFCA members and include categories such as Best Drama, Best Comedy, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Writing, Best Director, Breakthrough Talent, Best Documentary, Best Reality, Best Limited Series, Best TV Movie, Best Ensemble, and Best New Show. The organization also released its top 10 TV programs list, featuring a diverse range of shows across various platforms.

Robertson encouraged audiences not to miss the award-winning programs and performances, as well as the top 10 TV shows of the year. He expressed excitement about celebrating a successful year for television and the diverse storytelling that has resonated with audiences across platforms.

Overall, the AAFCA TV Honors showcase the best of television and recognize the talent and creativity of industry professionals in delivering compelling narratives and diverse storytelling. It is a celebration of excellence and innovation in the ever-evolving world of television.
