A road rage incident turned violent on Lake Shore Drive in Streeterville this morning, leaving a man injured after being shot. According to Chicago police, the 32-year-old victim was driving south in the 700 block of North Lake Shore Drive around 11:27 a.m. when he became involved in a confrontation with a man driving a black Jaguar SUV. The driver of the Jaguar pulled alongside the victim’s car and opened fire, striking the victim in the elbow.

The victim managed to call 911 while en route to Insight Hospital but decided to meet the police in the 1500 block of South Wabash Avenue. From there, he was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, as reported by CPD.

As of now, the gunman responsible for the shooting is still at large. Witnesses in the area reported hearing approximately three gunshots around 11:30 a.m., supporting the victim’s statement.

This incident adds to the growing number of shootings on the Near North Side, with a total of 11 people being shot so far this year. This is an increase from the same time last year, which had nine reported shootings. The statistics for previous years are as follows: 2023 – 9, 2022 – 29, 2021 – 9, 2020 – 7, 2019 – 14. It’s important to note that these numbers include accidental self-inflicted gunshot injuries, shootings by police, and incidents carried out in self-defense.
