Anysphere Raises $900 Million at $9.9 Billion Valuation

Anysphere, the company behind the popular AI coding assistant Cursor, has recently announced a successful funding round, raising $900 million at a valuation of $9.9 billion, as reported by Bloomberg. The funding was led by Thrive Capital, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, Accel, and DST Global.

This marks Anysphere’s third fundraising round in less than a year, showcasing the rapid growth and investor confidence in the 3-year-old startup. Previously, the company secured $100 million at a pre-money valuation of $2.5 billion in its last funding round.

Cursor Leading the AI Coding Assistant Market

AI coding assistants, known as “vibe coders,” have become increasingly popular, with Cursor emerging as a frontrunner in the category. Anysphere’s annualized revenue has been experiencing exponential growth, doubling every two months according to sources. The company has now exceeded $500 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR), a significant increase from previous reports.

Cursor offers developers a range of pricing options, including a $20 Pro subscription and a $40 monthly business subscription after a two-week free trial. While individual user subscriptions were the main revenue source initially, Anysphere has now introduced enterprise licenses for team usage at a higher price point.

Strategic Decisions and Acquisition Offers

Despite receiving acquisition offers from companies like OpenAI, Anysphere has chosen to stay independent and focus on its growth trajectory. In the competitive AI assistant market, Anysphere’s decision to decline buyout offers reflects its confidence in the value and potential of Cursor.

Earlier this year, OpenAI acquired Windsurf, another AI assistant, for $3 billion, highlighting the intense competition and market demand for AI technologies.
