Amazon, one of the world’s largest tech giants, has recently unveiled plans to invest a staggering $10 billion in the state of North Carolina. This investment is aimed at expanding the company’s data centre infrastructure to support the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing technologies.

The project is expected to create at least 500 high-skilled jobs in the state, with thousands more jobs being supported within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centre supply chain. The rising demand for generative AI has driven the need for advanced cloud infrastructure and computing power, making this expansion crucial for Amazon’s future growth.

David Zapolsky, Amazon’s chief global affairs and legal officer, expressed the company’s commitment to driving innovation and advancing cloud computing and AI technologies through this significant investment. Amazon plans to collaborate with state and local leaders, local suppliers, and educational institutions to cultivate the next generation of talent in this field.

In a separate development, Amazon is reportedly working on developing software for humanoid robots that could potentially replace delivery workers. The company is building a “humanoid park” in one of its San Francisco offices to test these robots, focusing on developing AI software while utilizing hardware from other firms for testing purposes.

Furthermore, Amazon has recently introduced a new feature that uses generative AI to create short-form audio summaries on select product detail pages. This feature offers concise overviews of products by analyzing product details, customer reviews, and other relevant online information, allowing customers to make more informed purchasing decisions efficiently.
