Julian Lennon, the renowned musician and author, is venturing into children’s entertainment with the launch of his new animated series, “Love the Earth.” The series made its debut at SXSW London, showcasing a unique blend of Indigenous storytelling and environmental activism aimed at educating and inspiring young audiences. Based on Lennon’s bestselling “Touch the Earth” book trilogy co-authored with Bart Davis, “Love the Earth” is directed by Jean-Paul Mertinez and co-produced by Meena Khera.
The animated series employs cutting-edge technology, including wildlife modeling, real-time animation, lush 3D environments, and immersive sound design. Produced by Compassionate Studios in the U.K., with a team of executive producers including Lennon, Davis, Lyndon Haviland, Rebecca Warfield, and Forest Trends, “Love the Earth” is set to revolutionize children’s and family entertainment with its purpose-driven and globally conscious approach.
The screen rights for the series were secured by Erica Spellman Silverman on behalf of Trident Media Group, paving the way for a worldwide premiere on YouTube. The creators of “Love the Earth” envision it as a new model of entertainment that not only entertains but also educates and empowers young viewers to become Earth heroes.
The launch event at SXSW London featured a panel discussion titled “Love the Earth: Animation for Good,” with notable collaborators such as United Nations high commissioner for human rights Volker Türk, director Jean-Paul Mertinez, and actor Mo Brings Plenty. Julian Lennon expressed his passion for the project, stating, “The Earth needs loving. The children are the heart of that love.”
The series will feature voice cameos from prominent figures such as Deepak Chopra, Sadie Frost, Raff Law, and Suvir Saran, who will bring to life a diverse cast of characters including endangered species and conservation advocates. Each episode of “Love the Earth” will showcase real ecosystems and cultural traditions from around the world, emphasizing the importance of preserving our planet for future generations.
In a groundbreaking move to merge animation with reality, the production has issued a global call for filmmakers, conservationists, and environmental storytellers to submit real-world footage for potential inclusion in the series. Additionally, “Love the Earth” has formed a creative partnership with award-winning Indian conservationist and filmmaker Mike Pandey and Riverbank Studios.
Following the panel discussion, King Charles made a surprise visit to SXSW London, where he met with Julian Lennon, Mo Brings Plenty, Jean-Paul Mertinez, and Volker Türk to show his support for the impactful initiative. “Love the Earth” is set to inspire a new generation of environmental advocates and foster a deeper connection to the natural world through the power of storytelling and animation.
