The recent news of the cancellation of the ballet series “Étoile” on Prime Video has left fans disappointed. The show, created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino of “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” fame, was initially given a two-season commitment by the streaming service. However, after just one season, Prime Video has decided to pull the plug on the series.

“Étoile” made its debut in late April to positive reviews from critics, but unfortunately, it seems that was not enough to secure its future. The decision to cancel the show comes as a surprise to many, especially considering the initial commitment from Prime Video.

Starring Luke Kirby and Charlotte Gainsbourg as ballet company directors, the series followed their efforts to save each other’s struggling institutions. The show was ordered to series in 2023, shortly before the finale of “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” premiered on the platform. Sherman-Palladino and Palladino, who also served as writers and directors on the show, were tentative about the possibility of a second season in a recent interview.

The cancellation of “Étoile” comes amidst a changing landscape at Amazon MGM Studios, with former head Jennifer Salke stepping down from her role earlier this year. It’s unclear what led to the decision to cancel the series, but it’s a disappointing outcome for fans of the show.

Despite the setback, Sherman-Palladino and Palladino have a strong relationship with Amazon Studios, having signed an overall deal with the platform in 2019. While “Étoile” may not be returning for a second season, fans can still look forward to future projects from the talented duo.

It’s always tough to see a show with potential come to an end, but such is the nature of the entertainment industry. Hopefully, the creators will have the opportunity to bring their vision to life in other projects down the line.
