The entertainment industry has lost a beloved figure with the passing of Danny Duran, a renowned entertainment publicist who founded the boutique agency ddPR. Duran, who battled cancer for eight months, passed away at the age of 58, leaving behind a legacy of more than 25 years in the industry.

Duran’s career began at Walt Disney Studios before he joined Sandra Bullock’s production company, Fortis Films, where he handled publicity for Bullock and other talented individuals such as Eric Roberts, Bill Pullman, and Ron Livingston. In 2000, he founded ddPR and secured Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment as one of his first clients. He played a crucial role in the transition from VHS to DVD and Blu-ray, supporting the release of iconic titles like “The Lion King,” “Snow White,” and “The Little Mermaid.”

Throughout his career, Duran and ddPR worked with a diverse range of film and talent clients, including Roadside Attractions, Sony Pictures, Disney, Universal, and Lionsgate. He also provided personal publicity for actors like Jon Hamm and Beth Grant, earning a reputation for his personal and caring approach.

Colleagues and friends have expressed their heartfelt condolences for Duran’s passing, highlighting his tireless dedication to his clients and causes he believed in. Beth Grant fondly remembers their 20-year friendship, emphasizing Duran’s kindness and understated guidance in navigating the complexities of Hollywood. Similarly, Amelia McPartlon Rogers, executive VP of Content Strategy and Integration Marketing at Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, credits Duran for his early belief in her career and unwavering friendship.

Brandy Fons, CEO of Fons, PR Inc., describes Duran as a best friend and inspiration in the publicity field, reflecting on their close collaboration during her time at The Walt Disney Studios. Duran’s generous spirit and impact on press, fellow publicists, and studios are deeply missed by those who knew him.
