A recent carjacking incident near Wicker Park has resulted in the arrest of a suspect after an armed security guard was held at gunpoint. The carjacking took place in the 1200 block of North Bosworth just before 12:30 a.m. and may be connected to a series of robberies in Lakeview and Lincoln Park.

The victim, a 32-year-old man, was sitting in his orange Dodge Charger when four masked individuals brandishing firearms approached him and demanded that he exit the vehicle. Compliance ensued, leading to the perpetrators fleeing with the Charger and a firearm that was left inside the car.

Quick police intervention led to the interception of the stolen Charger, accompanied by a white SUV, near Taylor Street and Sacramento Avenue. A Chicago Police Department helicopter aided in tracking the Charger, which eventually came to a stop in the 1900 block of South Trumbull.

One of the suspects attempted to flee the scene but was swiftly apprehended with the assistance of ground officers and the high-tech cameras on the police helicopter. Notably, the security guard’s firearm was still inside the recovered vehicle.

Three remaining suspects managed to escape in the white SUV, which tragically struck and dragged an officer as it sped away, as per a source familiar with the case.

The carjacking incident occurred shortly after a series of armed robberies involving individuals in a white SUV concluded in Lincoln Park. The SUV was found abandoned in the 4300 block of West Gladys around 1 a.m., following the arrest of the suspect who had fled from the Dodge Charger.

This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by carjackings and armed robberies in various neighborhoods across Chicago. The swift response from law enforcement highlights the importance of coordination and vigilance in tackling such criminal activities.
